Biography

Brandyn J. Hicks serves as General Counsel for ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ overseeing the College’s legal affairs and providing strategic legal advice on governance, compliance, and institutional priorities to the College and its Board of Trustees.

Brandyn joined Bryn Mawr after serving as Associate General Counsel at Johns Hopkins University for eight years.  She provided counsel to university leaders on a range of complex employment matters and student and faculty issues. Brandyn also served as Johns Hopkins’ inaugural policy manager and provided policy recommendations to university leadership and the board of trustees.  As a trained litigator, Brandyn represented the university in matters before the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, the EEOC, and the NCAA. She helped Johns Hopkins navigate its response to executive orders, agency directives, and other federal actions that directly affect the university’s research mission.

Prior to Johns Hopkins, Brandyn served as director of institutional compliance and policy for Baylor University. Originally from Philadelphia, Brandyn began her career in public interest as an assistant district attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and later served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the City of Baltimore.

Brandyn is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Friends School of Baltimore and the Board of Directors of Maryland Legal Aid.  She is actively involved in pro bono work, including serving as an expungement attorney in her community.  As a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, Brandyn regularly volunteers to develop and lead sessions on current issues in higher education law.

Brandyn graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Swarthmore College, where she was a four-year competitor on the women’s swim team. She earned her Juris Doctor from Temple University Beasley School of Law.
