Part of the BMC 2020 Five Years Later Remembrance Event - This Teach-In honors those who walked out, occupied, and dreamed beyond the sanctioned syllabus, insisting that knowledge itself be accountable to Black life.

Black Studies as a Field exists because Black Students Broke the Rules: Teach-Ins as Political Power situates Black Studies as a living field born from student rebellion and radical imagination. This teach-in honors those who walked out, occupied, and dreamed beyond the sanctioned syllabus, insisting that knowledge itself be accountable to Black life. Dr. López Oro, Assistant Professor and Director of Africana Studies, frames Black Studies both as remembrance and rebellion: a gathering where study becomes struggle, and where breaking the rules can become the truest form of learning.
